Piper Bridwell - Simple Plan

In Simple Plan, Piper Bridwell presents a clear and direct composition in which visual order and chromatic intensity coexist in balance. Created in 2025, the work is developed on a pictorial surface divided into two distinct sections: a light blue upper band that extends beyond the boundaries of the canvas—reaching part of the frame—and a main field in deep green, on which twelve brightly colored semicircular forms are arranged. The textured palette knife work used to apply these elements gives the composition both rhythm and presence, while keeping color’s expressive power at the center.

The colors, ranging from red to blue, pink to yellow, are distributed in a way that maintains a visual dynamic balancing structure and variation. The regular arrangement introduces a compositional rhythm that encourages the viewer to pause on each element, highlighting its uniqueness and relationship to the surrounding space.

A distinctive feature of the work is the painted intervention that continues beyond the canvas, extending onto the upper edge of the frame. This gesture breaks the traditional separation between artwork and support, introducing a different mode of perceiving the image.

Simple Plan reaffirms the consistency of Bridwell’s visual language: a structured form of painting in which color becomes a vehicle for meaning and a reflection of personal and spiritual experience.
